Where do our ingredients come from? Meet Steve “the magic man” Botha

Our focus at Makaron is to provide for our guests mouth-watering food in an elegant and comfortable environment. 

We’re passionate about sourcing ingredients that make for authentic, conscience-free eating.  Over the years we’ve cultivated friendships with artisanal suppliers, sourcing only the best from poultry to root vegetables.

Steve “the magic man” Botha supplies Makaron with root vegetables, selected leaves from his organic vegetable, herb and fruit farm on one hectare of land in Porterville. 

While most of herbs and edible flowers we use in the restaurant we grow in our own vegetable and herb garden at Majeka House, see image below.

Meet Steve “the magic man” Botha
His garden comprises a variety of rare plants, the Jerusalem artichoke, the golden beetroot, Japanese golden mustard and brandy wine tomatoes – just to name a few. Botha has always had a passion for ­cooking and has supplied baby ­vegetables to us at Majeka House for many years.

He uses mountain water is used to irrigate the farm, where organic principles are followed. Ludwig’s garden spray and Steve’s homemade chilli ‘consommé’ are spritzed on plants for pest control.
